Welcome to TMSA Public Charter Schools!

TMSA is North Carolina’s growing network of high-performing non-profit public charter schools with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) focus. We serve more than 3,000 students from kindergarten through 12th grade on five campuses in three cities.

We are tuition-free and operated by an independent board of directors. Our first school, Triad Math and Science Academy, was established in 2008 in Greensboro by a group of public charter school advocates who supported effective, diverse, and well-funded public charter schools in North Carolina. As increasingly high demand exceeded the number of seats available, Triad was followed by Triangle Math and Science Academy in Cary in 2012 and Queen City STEM School in Charlotte in 2015. Our newest school The Math and Science Academy of Apex will open its doors in Fall 2022.

We are lifelong learners with big hearts. As our motto “Scientia - Sapientia - Pax” signifies in Latin, we seek knowledge, pursue wisdom, and foster peace in all we do. Our robust academic program and character education develop students' skills to live in harmony with themselves, with others, and with the natural environment.

We are committed to being among the best public charter schools in the U.S. All TMSA schools are earning high performance grades from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for several years. Triangle Math and Science Academy was recognized by Niche as one of the ten best charter high schools in North Carolina for the last two years. We provide a high-quality and enriching education that equips students with 21st-century skills in a safe, nurturing, and culturally-responsive learning environment supported by our strong school, family, and community partnership.
