About TMSA Reopening for 2020-2021
Posted on 06/30/2020
Dear TMSA and QCSS Communities,

Governor Roy Cooper is expected to decide this week how schools will reopen in August according to the health guideline released earlier this month.

The health guideline, “StrongSchoolsNC Public Health Toolkit (K-12),” explains a comprehensive set of baseline health practices that public schools should follow to minimize risk of exposure to COVID-19 for students, staff and families.

According to the guideline, all schools are required to be ready for carrying out three scenarios:

Plan A is "Minimal Social Distancing" when COVID-19 metrics continue to stabilize and/or move in a positive direction.
Plan B is "Moderate Social Distancing" when COVID-19 metrics worsen, and it is determined additional restrictions are necessary.
Plan C is "Remote Learning Only" when COVID-19 metrics worsen significantly enough to require suspension of in-person instruction.
School districts may choose to implement a more restrictive plan but may not choose to implement a less restrictive plan than established by the guideline. Governor Cooper’s office will announce which of the three plans should be implemented for schools to most safely reopen. The remaining plans may be needed if the state’s COVID-19 metrics change over time.

We, TMSA Public Charter Schools, are in close cooperation with the Department of Public Instruction and state health agencies as we prepare ourselves for the next academic year. We would also want to hear from you after Governor Cooper's decision. Please, expect an online survey from us in early July.

We hope to reach our decision between July 15 and 20.

The best interest of every child will be at the centre of our decisions, and we will use the best available evidence to make these decisions. Considering the disruptive and evolving nature of the situation, we will be doing our best to be flexible and ready to adapt to ensure the safety of every child.

TMSA Public Charter Schools successfully completed the 2019-20 academic year after our quick transition to remote learning in March as a response to the COVID-19 outbreak. We survived the pandemic through our rigorous online instruction, equitable educational tools, and comprehensive relief support system as well as the help and understanding of our students and parents.

I am confident that no matter how we re-open, we will be ready to shoulder any challenges along the way and will keep changing the education landscape together and forever.

I would like to remind you all one more time that as we are about to make important decisions about our schools, the health and well-being of every member of our communities will be at the forefront of our minds.

We look forward to welcoming our students back either online or in-person.
